What's in a Name?

Last Sunday was Alex's naming and blessing. It's been great having this little guy in our family. We gave each of our children names that we hope they can live up to. Here is why we chose what we chose.

Esther Joy Grange. Queen Esther is my hero. There aren't many women with the faith and courage she had. We hope Esther can grow to be so strong. Her middle name Joy is partly to share my middle name with me, and partly because she introduced the joy of parenthood into our lives.

William Edward Grange. Edward was chosen after James Edward Talmage, an apostle who wrote Jesus the Christ. He's had a great influence in our lives, Cameron's in particular. Edward means "blessed protector." William means "protection" and seemed to go well with Edward. We hope he can grow to be a protector of those who need it and a witness of Jesus Christ.

Alexander Lewis Grange. Lewis was chosen after C.S. Lewis, the christian author. He's written many things that have affected both Cameron and I for the better. Lewis means "famous warrior." Alexander means "man's defender, or warrior," and usually makes people think of greatness. We hope that Alexander can be a great warrior, defending men from evil.

What a deep and meaningful post. I know your children will really appreciate the careful thought you put into each of their names. Very special.

That's really cool, thanks for sharing how you chose your kids' names. I didn't know what their names meant, and I think they're even cooler names now that I know. :0) Cute family picture, BTW!
