Two Down, Eleven to Go
For Family Home Evening this year we decided to focus all the months' lessons on one of the Articles of Faith. (We'll combine #11 and #12 so we can finish them in a year.) Every night at bedtime we sing the song that teaches the article we're learning about. Esther decided to amaze us by quickly memorizing the songs we've sung so far.

Swimming at the Club
This is how we spend our Thrusdays. I'm excited to make a snowman next winter, but this'll do for now.

My Father's Daughter
I was not a picky eater growing up, but there were a few things I abhorred. Squash of the non-pie variety was impossible to swallow. If beans were cooking, I left the house. But the worst thing was when my dad thought he could trick us into drinking powdered milk by putting it a regular milk jug. What a great way to start your morning, gagging on a bowl of cereal.
But living in Grenada has somehow changed my tastes. The first hate to go was the beans. If we wanted to eat here, we had to eat beans. There was really no other way to get the nutrients we needed without taking out more loans. I actually came to like them. Then one day I realized that squash wasn’t so bad. Maybe it’s because curried pumpkin is very tasty, or maybe it’s because it’s one of the few fresh veggies always available. But I actually like squash even without sugar or butter on it.
The big shock happened a few days ago. Since milk costs $6.75 US Dollars a gallon we don’t buy it. The kids don’t know any better so they drink powdered milk. Cameron and I take calcium pills and try to eat some cheese.

One of William's favorite games is "feed Mommy", and a few days ago his feelings were really hurt that I wouldn’t drink any of his milk, so I gave in. And it wasn’t bad. It still tasted like powdered milk, but smelling it everyday for the past two and a half years when I mix it up for the kids seems to have desensitized me from that pungent flavor.
So congratulations Dad. You still couldn’t trick me into thinking powdered milk was fresh, but I will drink it now without much complaint.
