Fifth Disease

This picture has nothing to do with this post. I took it a while ago when Esther and William were "fishing" before church.

Anyway - on to the real news. William has fifth disease. It's not really a big deal. Lots of kids get it and they get over it just fine. It seems to be just a cold followed by really red cheeks and some splotchy skin. William probably hasn't been contagious since Wednesday. If you want to know all about it you can click here.

The only problem is if you are pregnant and you catch fifth disease it can in a few cases cause complications. So this post is really to let all you women who have been in contact with us the past week or two know that if you're pregnant you should tell your doctor you might have been exposed to fifth disease. Or if you know someone who doesn't read this blog, but would still need that information to please pass it on.

I'm So Glad When Daddy Comes Home

Thursday night we got a special surprise. Cameron came home early! We weren't expecting him until today. Around 4:00pm he called to let me know he was on his way home. I thought he'd arrive in the middle of the night, so I kept it a secret from the kids. He called around 9:00pm to let me know he was 10 minutes away! I woke the kids up and told them to look out the window. They cuddled on the couch until they saw a car pull up and asked if it was bringing their surprise. Then they saw Daddy waving at them and all their sleepies were instantly gone. They had a very happy night, but after about ten minutes the adrenaline wore off and they went back to bed.

Yesterday we had a wonderful day just being together.

Today, after helping shovel (a.k.a having a snowball fight), Esther took Cameron ice skating to show him everything she's been learning in her class.

She tried to teach him to skate backwards, but it was harder than she made it look.

William loved running around the rink until he got too cold.

Chilly Fest

Today was Chilly Fest!

Pine cone bird feeders!

Face painting! This was William's first time. He's never wanted it done before. After watching Esther get her Cinderella, he wanted a dog on his face, and sat more still than I've ever seen before. He wouldn't even move his lips to smile until it was done.

We took a trolley ride to the other park where we found a putting range. Esther actually got the ball to go through the circle! William wanted to hold the ball while hitting it.

While waiting for the trolley ride back to the first park, we looked at ice sculptures and snowmen. William was excited to see one his size.

Here comes the trolley.

All aboard!

After all that fun we had worked up an appetite. Being Chilly Fest, I had a nice bowl of chilly. The kids weren't quite as adventurous and stuck with hot dogs and chips.

Two Conversations

This morning...

William: "Mommy, door stuck!"
Me: "Yes, it is stuck."
William: "Mommy, door won't open!"
Me: "I know. It can stay closed."
William: Pointing to the chain lock causing all his frustration, "No Mommy! Unzip door!"

What an interesting description.

Tonight at dinner, after discussing our "happies" and "sads" of the day...

Esther: "Mom, what makes you cry?"
Me: Thinking wow, what a deep question, I should try to give a good answer. "Well, when someone I love is hurt or very far away it can make me cry."
Esther: Looking thoughtful, "Oh, what else."
Me: "Sometimes when I feel the Holy Ghost it makes me feel so good I cry."
Esther: seeming a little disappointed, "Oh"
Me: "What makes you cry Esther?"
Esther: "Onions. When I hold an onion it makes me cry."

I think her mind had moved on from our previous discussion to what we were eating. She wanted to know which food makes me cry.
